So, this is my first time as a blogger, so I hope that I am doing this right.
I have a few different experiences with curriculum. One school that I was at, we were in the process of creating maps for each grade level. This was used so teachers could see what other teachers were teaching and when. Also, this was helpful for a new teacher that isn't sure what to teach. Another school I was at used mapping also, but no one really used it.
I have also used reading and math curriculum that come in a kit. I really like our math program that we have because it reviews what was taught in the previous grade at the beginning of the year and then moves forward.
On the planning part, I have helped with creating maps and planning the curriculum for my own classroom.
What have been your experience with curriculum? Is it the same as mine?
C, you've had some typical curriculum development experiences...all good for learning more about curriculum. If someone said that you could invent your own curriculum for (say) grade 5...where would you start? What would you do?
ReplyDeleteI would start with talking to the grade 4 teacher to see what has been taught. Then I would speak to the grade 6 teachers to see what they expect the students to know once they get to grade 6. Then I would work on setting a goal for the end of the school year on what they need to know before entering 6th grade. Then I would make a plan of what needs to be taught. At the beginning of the year I would work on a review from the year before or things that they struggled with. Then I would move forward so their goal is reached by the end of the year.
